Tonight, September 1, 2021, ‘The Metal Tour of The Year’ came to Irvine, CA with Hatebreed, Trivium, Lamb of God, and Megadeth. It’s great to have shows back as things in the music world slowly get back to normal. Tonight the show would take place at one of my favorite venues, FivePoint Amphitheater in Irvine, California.

Hatebreed was the first band of the evening. I am very familiar with Hatebreed, but this would be my first time seeing them live. They got things started with “Empty Promises” and went on to play other aggressive songs like “This Is Now,” “Smash Your Enemies,” and “Destroy Everything.” The Irvine crowd definitely approved.

Next up, it was time for Trivium! Another band which I hadn’t seen live prior, but they sure delivered. They roared in, starting things off with “In The Court of the Dragon,” then went right into “Catastrophist.” Some other highlights from their set were “What the Dead Men Say,” “Down From the Sky,” and “In Waves.”

The next set was from the Richmond, VA metal masters, Lamb of God. Led by singer Randy Blythe, they are no strangers to the Southern California metal crowds. They got their set started with “Memento Mori.” From there they went on to play songs like “Ruin,” “Walk With Me in Hell,”

“Resurrection Man,” “512,” and ended with “Redneck.” This was one of the most powerful sets I had ever seen from Lamb of God. Absolutely brutal!

The night concluded with a set from Megadeth. Dave Mustaine and crew never disappoint. Tonight they got things started with “Hangar 18” and went on to play a good assortment of songs from their catalog including “Sweating Bullets,” “Symphony of Destruction,” and “Peace Sells.”  You can tell the fans were glad to be back and headbanging to their favorite Megadeth songs. Be sure to catch this tour if it stops by your town.
