On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, it was a beautiful night for an early 2000s nostalgic feast for the soul when Third Eye Blind came into Council Bluffs, IA to play Stir Cove at Harrah’s Casino along with Taking Back Sunday and Hockey Dad.

Hockey Dad from New South Wales, Australia opened up the concert. And they brought the nice weather from Australia with them. I enjoyed their pop-rock sound. I felt like I was on a beach while listening/watching them, which makes sense for a couple of guys from Australia. Their latest album they put out in 2020 is called Brain Candy. I wouldn’t mind checking these guys out, again.

Long Island, NY’s own Taking Back Sunday was the direct support for the night. I don’t know about you, reader, but I recently saw the film, Elvis (2022), and lead singer Adam Lazzara has a swagger and stage presence on stage that reminded me of the King. He’s great at his job! Also, he mentioned that he was up $1,500 playing the slots at the casino, so it was nice to hear about an artist taking advantage of the amenities at the venue. The band played a great set of songs from their twenty-year career, keeping the audience engaged throughout. They ended their set with their signature song, “MakeDamnSure”, a timeless sing-along. I do hope they put out an album of original material soon.

Finally, it was the Bay Area’s own Third Eye Blind turn to hit the stage! They are celebrating twenty-five years of playing music professionally, kicking off their career with their successful self-titled debut album. Stephan Jenkins’s voice still sounds incredible today. I was impressed with the stage production they brought, where the drum kit was at the top of an inclined plane and the backdrop of video laser boards. I was very impressed with Kryz Reid’s guitar playing. They ended their set with “How’s It Going to Be”, one of their biggest hits. Happy twenty-five years to Third Eye Blind. Thank you for still going out and playing live music.
