Last February Corey Taylor & Friends they played the Roxy in Los Angeles and this time they brought it back to Southern California, but hit the Garden AMP (open air mini-theater) in Garden Grove, CA. Tonight was the last of 6 shows they did with special guest, The Cherry Bombs. Rain was in the forecast all day so wasn’t sure if this show would actually happen. When it came down to show time, it was still a go!
The evening got started with the Cherry Bombs who are a female group of professional dancers, aerialist, fire artists, hoopers, pole dancers, and singers. Last time they played the Roxy, they didn’t get to perform their fire show, but tonight in Garden Grove the fire was included! A great performance to warm up the crowd. A very talented group of women that own the stage from start to finish. If you get a chance to see them perform, take it. They never disappoint, and they are friendly as hell!
After a quick intermission, it was time for Corey Taylor & Friends to hit the stage. So great to see Corey Taylor performing especially after coming out of knee surgery on both knees. Not only that, once they hit the stage, the light rain started to fall. Mother nature couldn’t stop this evening’s event. Joining Corey Taylor on stage were Jason Christopher (Ministry/Prong) on bass, Brandon Pertzborn (Marilyn Manson/Horror/Doyle) on drums, and Zach Throne (actor/musician) on bass. The chemistry between these four on stage works and it works well. Just like the other shows, they played many of their favorite covers like Love Song (The Damned), Don’t Change (INXS), Let’s Go (Cars), and many more. Someone from the crowd yelled out “play Misfits!” Corey promised next time they would definitely include The Misfits. It was great to see the band and Corey in great spirits. Corey also gave a shout out to his brother from Slipknot, Shawn Crahan. That same day, it had been announced that Shawn’s youngest daughter passed. We, of course, send out condolences to Sean and his family. Nice to see Corey mention that at the show.
During the last song of the show, the rain started to come down pretty hard. As Corey and Friends were finishing up the last song, the tarp that had been protecting the stage from the rain, finally gave out. What timing! A perfect way to end the evening.
