Jonny Two Bags, who is Social Distortion’s current guitar player, opened the show.  He has been with Social Distortion since 2000 as well as a member of U.S. Bombs, The Cadillac Tramps and Youth BrigadeJohnny went solo in 2012 with a 7” called “Hope Dies Hard.”  He was the perfect choice to open for an acoustic version of The Offspring.  I have never seen him live but instantly fell in love with his heartfelt song “One Foot in the Gutter.”

I was shocked to hear that The Offspring were on an acoustic tour.  How could they take their punk rock sound that we all know and love and change it?  Although I was skeptical, they played “The Kids Aren’t Alright” and “Self Esteem” and nostalgia kicked in.  Even though the band was seated for the show, the place lit up and everyone was singing along.  Most of the band has been together since 84-85 except the drummer who came along in 2007 and it showed with the band singing so in-sync.  They still sang their famous background “whoas” and it was hard for me as a photographer not to sing along.  Dexter Holland has an amazing voice and sang perfectly.  Anytime I can relive the 90’s, I go home happy.  This was my first Offspring show but it definitely won’t be my last!  They are playing the Vans Warped Tour this summer and I will definitely be there to hear their original style as well.
