The Plot in You opened the show of the evening on Sunday, October 13, 2019 with high energy at the Senator Theater in Chico, California. The band says on Facebook they are rock and others have called them metalcore.  I would vote metalcore, with their heavy guitar, bass and loud vocals. They formed in 2010 in Hancock County, Ohio. The band is Landon Tewers on vocals, Josh Childress on guitar, Ethan Yoder on bass, and Mathis Arnell killing it on drums.  They signed with Fearless Records back in 2017 and released their fourth LP Dispose which is out now!

The Amity Affliction was second up and filled the air with the loudest bass that almost makes your heart stop beating! They are described by their Facebook as Metalcore/Post-Hardcore and I wouldn’t disagree. They are a rather small band with Joel Birch on vocals, Ahren Stringer on bass and vocals, and Dan Brown on guitar.  Their hometown is Brisbane, Australia and they formed in 2003. The band has released six albums, with their latest Misery released in 2018.

Sum 41 ended the night with a bang! I mean wow! Full of lasers, large balloons thrown into the audience and even a huge satan blow up with glowing eyes. Everyone in the band played like it was their last show on earth and I could not have asked for more!  I had 3 songs to shoot and I was mesmerized by the coolness oozing from every member of the band! I have seen this band play but it has always been to large crowds, what an amazing opportunity to see them close up and personal in an intimate setting where I grew up! I have never ever been to a bad Sum 41 show, these guys kick ass!  It’s Deryck Whibley as singer/songwriter/guitarist, Cone McCaslin on bass, Tom Thacker as guitarist, Dave Brownsound as guitarist, and Frank Zummo bangin the drums.  They played an encore as most bands do but came back for a third time in 80’s metal hair wigs playing after most people left, the song “Pain for Pleasure.”  Luckily I was fidgeting with my camera lenses and was able to snap a few photos of this. This was such a kick ass show, don’t miss their “Order in Decline” tour going on now, as well as their new album with the same name. I have listened to this album over and over and I fuckin’ LOVE it!
