One of the most anticipated metal tours of 2022 made its way to the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Late last year, Mayhem announced ‘The Sanguine Sodomy of North America’ Tour.”  This tour would feature European black metal masters Mayhem and Watain along with the thrash metal of Cleveland based Midnight. A day before the tour began in San Francisco, Watain was forced to pull out of the tour due to circumstances beyond their control. They were unexpectedly given the news from the US embassy that entry into the US would now take longer because of an “additional administrative” process that they had to go through. This was absolutely devastating news to Watain fans, but the tour would not be stopped. Tonight’s show was SOLD OUT as Mayhem and Midnight promised to bring the chaos and Go Venue was there to cover it!

Tonight there would be no local openers as Cleveland’s Midnight took the stage promptly at 7:45pm. The lights went down, and an announcement came over the speakers. “All right, Los Angeles..You wanted the worst, and you got it! From the virus filled streets of Cleveland…MIDNIGHT.”  Then suddenly the three hooded trio lead by founder Athenar took the stage. They got things started with “Black Rock n’ Roll” then went right into “Poison Thrash.” Midnight just released their new album Let There Be Witchery on March 4th which the band had copies available for purchase at their merch booth. This is their second release on Metal Blade Records and is another metal banger from the sinister mind of founder Athenar. Tonight, they played two new tracks from the new album, “Szex Witchery” and “Telepathic Nightmare.” They also played other fan favorites like “Lust, Filth, and Sleaze,” “F****** Speed and Darkness,” “Satanic Royalty,” “You Can’t Stop Steele,” and “Who Gives A F***?” Their set came to an end with the infamous “Unholy and Rotten” song, which was a perfect way to end their set. Be sure to pick up their new album as it’s definitely a crusher!

Next it was time for the black metal masters, Mayhem. Mayhem consists of Necrobutcher (bass), Hellhammer (drums), Attila (vocals), Teloch (guitar), and Ghul (guitar). It’s not always Los Angeles has the opportunity to host the Norwegian black metal legends, so tonight would be a special night. Mayhem took the stage as they received a loud round of applause and roar from the crowd. They got their set started with “Falsified and Hated” then they followed with “To Daimonion.” They blasted through others like “Malum,” “My Death,” and “Voces Ab Alta” before they proceeded to Act II. Act II would consist of fan favorites like “Freezing Moon” and “Buried by Time and Dust” amongst others. Their 3rd and final act would consist of some older classics like “Death Crush,” “Chainsaw Gutsfuck,” and “Carnage.” A truly dark and brutal set that could only be delivered by these Norwegian black metal veterans. The night unfortunately had to come to an end, where they concluded their set with “Pure Fucking Armageddon.”

We’d like to thank both Mayhem and Midnight for making this a most memorable evening of metal and debauchery. Be sure to catch Mayhem and Midnight on this North America tour. You don’t want to miss this one! Check all tour dates at: www.thetruemayhem.com/live.
