Love was in the air on the night of November 9 at Teragram Ballroom, in Los Angeles, for Kat Von D and Prayers. Kat Von D released her sophomore album, My Side of the Mountain in September 2024 after her successful debut album, Love Made Me Do It in 2021. Her music is a beautiful blend of disco goth, synth wave, and post-punk. Her latest album has only been out for almost 2 months, and her fans cheered when she started each song. They sang along with her and clearly have had this album on repeat. The crowd swayed along to the dreamy track, “Illusion,” and then brought thunderous energy for her song, “Dead.” She started her show with a video of her singing a rendition of Eric Carmen’s, “All By Myself,” and then entered the stage with so much applause that it drowned out the music. As a surprise, she brought out artist and her co-writer, Ferras.
Prayers opened the sold out show with so much excitement. His fans would erupt with cheers when he danced with his microphone and repeatedly yelled out that they loved him. Both he and his wife sang love songs about the other during their sets, which added to the love story, that is their tour. Their dark, ethereal realms were prevalent in both sets.
As an added bonus, the couple’s longtime friend, Charo, was in attendance. Kat Von D having a show in Los Angeles felt like a family reunion for her, and you could tell how special it is for her. She still has a couple shows left on her My Side of the Mountain tour in California before she heads to the East Coast. Experiencing one of her captivating shows reminds you just how talented she is as a true artist.
