From Ashes to New brought the Blackout tour to The Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday, December 10th. The lineup consisted of local rapper EKOHCatch Your Breath, and The Word Alive. This Sunday night show was sold out, which was evident by the packed venue.

First up was EKOH. The set was such a unique one, and I’ve never seen anything like it live. EKOH brought hip-hop, rap, and rock rolled into one. The music could be described as several different genres, but whatever you want to call it, EKOH brings all the heart that it takes to captivate a crowd. His crowd-surfing and signing fans’ sneakers on stage captivated the hearts of many in Lincoln.

Austin, Texas-based Catch Your Breath took the stage next and kept the sincere energy from the last act going. Lead vocalist Josh opened up on stage about struggles in his life and related to concertgoers on a personal level. They ended their set with their track, “Dial Tone”. It was easy to see why it’s a crowd favorite. Catch Your Breath is a must-listen for anyone looking for more great new metal.

Next up, from Phoenix, Arizona, was The Word Alive. They played an energetic set, with hard-hitting metal, and a slow-down near the middle with their song, “Slow Burn” off of their album, Hard Reset. They opened a lively mosh pit towards the end of their set, and everyone was having a great time. They put on an awesome live show, and fans couldn’t get enough.

When the lights dimmed, bass notes rang out, vibrating through everyone in the building. Fans exclaimed in excitement and braced themselves to be blown away. An on-stage TV screen lit up with the original PlayStation loading screen. I speak for myself when I say that the nostalgia hit hard. I could see it on everyone else’s faces, too, as they watched on. The theatrics didn’t stop there, as the stage lit up with video game-like scenes, and From Ashes to New took the stage. This crowd was made up of die-hard fans. Several in attendance were children at their first-ever rock concert. The band kept the crowd engaged throughout the entire set, and only left them wanting more. From Ashes to New can’t come back to Lincoln soon enough, and you won’t want to miss them when they do.
