REVIEW BY DAVID TAYLOR and PHOTOS BY ROBERT A CHADWICK | Go Venue Magazine
Stir Cove at Harrah’s Council Bluffs Hotel and Casino always puts on great shows. This was my first time back since I covered the Flogging Molly and Social Distortion show back in September of 2019, so it was good to be back at this one of a kind venue for 3 Doors Down and Seether.
Seether was the direct support of the night. This was my second time seeing them live, the last being their show at Sokol in 2017. And what a great live band they are. Shaun Morgan still continues to give it his all after almost twenty years. I was really impressed with Corey Lowery, lead guitarist and brother of Clint Lowery, guitarist of Sevendust and former touring guitarist of Seether, with his performance, bringing so much energy to the stage with his guitar playing and backing vocals. They played all the hits, as well as some new cuts from their latest album, Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum. Another amazing set by Seether. They have always been loved in these parts of the country.
Finally, it was 3 Doors Down’s turn to take the stage. They are on tour currently in support of the anniversary of The Better Life, which turned twenty years in 2020. So, they kicked off their set by playing two of their biggest hits, “Kryptonite” and “Loser”. I was surprised how tight of a live band they were. Lead singer Brad Arnold was battling some pollen allergies, but still managed to put on a good performance. Everyone was singing along to the songs to help him out. Their encore kicked off with “Here Without You”, with Arnold finally hitting those high notes near the end of the song. They ended their set with the ripper, “When I’m Gone”. I was impressed with 3 Doors Down’s live performance. I understand why their fanbase is so passionate for these Mississippi boys. Keep on booking more hard rock shows, Harrah’s Council Bluffs! There are still so many people that go to them.
