Well, still no show approval for the main stage, which is a bummer because tonight was Matt Stell and Clint Black, two performers who would’ve been great to cover, but alas, our press passes we are finding out are only good enough to bring our equipment into the amphitheater and photograph people, not the concerts (which we still can’t figure out).
But, discouraging as it might be, we are trying to make the most of it. Today we spent some time up on the Main Street of Buffalo Chip, seeing what action we could make for ourselves.
As it turns out, it was the Women’s Day at the Chip, and there was a motorcycle competition happening just behind the legendary Big Engine Bar. From pink bikes to bikes with skeleton features on them, even one that looked like a real-life Big Wheel, the competition had it all, and lots of media personnel were walking around the area capturing images of the bikes as well. One author encouraged the women who were there to begin riding as soon as possible so that women could have a bigger impact on the motorcycle industry. “Think of the gear we could have! We could double our presence overnight if every woman biker went home and encouraged another woman to ride,” she said.
The band Big Skillet was playing inside the Big Engine Bar where we got a few drinks to help us cool off on the 93-degree scorcher of a day, and they were pretty entertaining! Right outside the bar, bikers could get their bikes washed off by babes in bikinis for what I could only imagine would be a pretty penny.
One of the highlights of the day was the free fuel for the bikers. From 10am to 1pm daily Buffalo Chip partners with Renewable Fuels Association and gives away 93 Octane fuel to any biker who can make it to the pump in time, which is a really good value, probably the best one in the whole park!
