DEAN BIRKHEIMER | Go Venue Magazine
The Bourbon Theatre is located inside a completely remodeled 1920 movie theater and has emerged as one of Lincoln, Nebraska’s top music venues that has hosted hundreds of local and national/international acts. The facility can entertain up to 750 guests in its main room and 150 in the front room or, as it’s known, The Rye Room. Tonight’s performances would be in The Rye Room.
Back in 2012 some fellas got together in Lincoln, Nebraska and formed a band. There would be only two rules. The music had to be fast, and it had to be LOUD!! Now nearly a dozen years later, the fellas are a little older and guess what….MUCH LOUDER!! Rock and Roll is about having fun, and Red Cities is just that. An incredibly fun band that burns through barre and power chords, on Gibson SG’s, like nobody’s business. On this night Red Cities would play, in its entirety, their upcoming new 12 track LP, The Indeterminist. This is going to be their 3rd album and, according to what they played, their most diverse. Don’t get me wrong, it was fast, it was loud, but it also had purpose and depth. You can follow and keep up to date on the album’s release date as well as upcoming shows here.

Radkey’s set started with a proclamation. “Hello, we are Radkey, and we Rock and Roll.” What an understatement. The 15 song set was an audio assault of hard driving songs that kept the crowd engaged. Since 2010 these three brothers have been traveling globally sharing their crunch with the world. Opening for acts such as L7 and Hall of Famers, the Foo Fighters, Radkey has established themselves as an extremely well respected and liked rock band. Radkey’s style plays to everyone from young to old, male or female, as well as a diversity of race. Whether Radkey is playing in front of 100,000 at Lollapalooza or about 100 as they did on this evening, they fill the venue with vitality and zeal. The brothers were homeschooled which gave them tons of time to go through their father’s massive vinyl collection that included bands like Zeppelin, Stones, Beatles, Weezer and Nirvana. From homeschool lessons to old school rock, the band emits a higher level of sound that includes non-stop on stage antics and movements. I promise you that if you ever see Radkey live, you will be seeing and hearing something nobody else is doing. Or at the very least, not doing it as well. Here is a link to their newest release, “Strays”. Take a moment and enjoy a taste of Radkey. Keep apprised of everything Radkey here.
