Radkey was the final act in this year’s Arts in the Park series at the Manhattan, Kansas’ city park. The concert series takes place every Friday through June and July, and this finale had been much anticipated.
The openers for the night were the local band Headlight Rivals. Their sound is described online as power-pop rock, and it always hits the spot. Lead vocalist Eric Kleiner delivered a perfect vocal performance sprinkled with fun banter with the show’s announcer Sloan. As a bass lover, I’m always happy to get to listen to bassist Seven Black play. He never fails to deliver. The band’s newest member Dan Casimir has been such a killer addition. He brings great energy to the stage. They are so much fun to listen to every time I see them, and they always sound awesome. They played some new material that I can’t wait to hear once it’s released. It’s always a good night when Headlight Rivals are performing.
After hyping the crowd throughout the evening for some good old-fashioned punk rock, Sloan announced Radkey as they took to the stage. Concertgoers rushed to the front of the stage and didn’t miss a beat, hyping them up and jamming out. Radkey has played in Manhattan many times, and locals know their music well. It’s always nice to see people sing along. They played their song “Romance Dawn” which is one of my favorites and sounds so good live. After thanking the crowd and leaving the stage, the band was cheered back on for an encore. They joked that they were going to teach us a lesson for asking for more, as they dove right into their rendition of the “Teen Titans Theme” song. It went over so well with the crowd and made for a unique and memorable finale. Radkey never fails to deliver a jam-packed, high-energy show in Manhattan, and we can’t wait for them to come back to town.
