Danish heavy metal legends, Mercyful Fate, started their North American tour in October, along with the support of Kreator and Midnight. California got lucky with two shows, one in San Diego and the other at the YouTube Theater in Inglewood on October 29th, 2022. The 6,000-person capacity venue was full by the time Mercyful Fate hit the stage. Midnight started out the night with their punk rock energy and commanding stage presence. They were a perfect addition to the tour, and it’s exciting to think about the next tours they’ll do. German thrash band, Kreator played a mix of new material from recent albums, Gods of Violence and Hate Über Alles, and classic bangers from Pleasure to KillKreator always puts on a good show and Los Angeles was fired up to see them.

The curtain dropped with anticipation from the crowd to unveil Mercyful Fate. Fans could be heard saying they hadn’t seen the band perform in decades and couldn’t believe they were finally here. Mercyful Fate delivered a visual and auditory masterpiece. The stage was complete with arches, backlighting, the sigil of Baphomet and an illuminated upside down cross. The floor was packed with a pit that lasted until the end of the night. They were sure to include fan favorites from “Don’t Break the Oath” and “Melissa.” They ended the show with “Satan’s Fall” which turned the entire floor into a mosh pit. King Diamond can still hit his high-notes and put on a killer performance. This tour will continue into mid-November and is quickly selling out.
