Slipknot has been on the road since the end of July touring for the first time in a few years as part of the Knotfest Roadshow Festival.
They are on the road in support of their new album ‘We Are Not Your Kind,’ which was released on August 9, 2019. With this release, Slipknot has scored their third consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 charts.
Billboard reported that this is the first time a hard rock or heavy metal album has debuted at the top spot since Foo Fighters released Concrete and Gold in 2017. Now it was time to wrap up their last three shows of their tour in Texas and we were there to cover them in Austin.
The day started with a signing with three members of Slipknot (Tortilla Man, Shawn Crahan, and Alessandro Venturella) which took place at Spec’s Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods. They were promoting their new Whiskey called “No 9. Iowa Whiskey.” The product is a collaboration between Slipknot and Iowa-based, family-owned Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery.
Fans lined up hours before they arrived and were waiting patiently in what seemed like a never ending line. The three Slipknot members where there to meet fans and sign a copies of their new Whiskey, which ended up selling out. The energy of the fans was evident which carried right over to where they were performing this evening, the Austin360 Amphitheater.
We got there in time to see the mighty Behemoth take the stage. They have to be one of the most brutal bands out there right now and great to see them touring extensively. Lead by singer and guitarist Adam Nergal Darksi, Behemoth brought their brutal black metal anthems to Austin in what seemed to be a burning fire of hell. The weather was a scorching 102 degrees, and only was enhanced when they used their pyrotechnics which filled the stage with huge bursts of flames. Killer set by these guys! Behemoth will also supporting Slipknot throughout their European tour once they conclude in the US.
Next it was time for Slipknot to take the stage here at the Austin360 Amphitheater. By now the sun was down and things were a bit cooler and the venue was now completely full. Once the curtain dropped, the band blasted their way and started off things with “People = Shit” then went right into “(Sic).” Those of definitely brutal songs and fan favorites for sure. Tonight the nine members of Slipknot wore their white stage wear which was a change from the beginning of the tour where they wore their dark suits. They played a wide selection of songs from their entire catalog and ended with the signature middle finger salute, “Surfacing.” Great to see these guys back as they never disappoint.
Next up for Slipknot is the Aftershock Fest in Sacramento, California in October immediately followed by an Australian and European tour. Catch them if you can!
