On December 3, 2024, radio station 104-1 The Blaze assembled a stellar line-up of bands to support their annual “Kampout for Kids” fundraiser. The Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska hosted the event. 104-1 The Blaze brought in two bands they consider Blaze “breakout artists”, Pistols At Dawn and Velvet Chains, as well as local favorite Cyphen.
Cyphen kicked off the night in the Bourbon Theatre’s Rye Room, drawing a strong local crowd. Cyphen put on a solid, high-energy show featuring the usual set list but gave fans a taste of new music as well. They performed one new song off their upcoming album, leaving everyone wanting more. Fans won’t have to wait long; they announced the release date will be December 20th and December 28th on streaming platforms.
Velvet Chains, a rock band based out of Las Vegas, has band members spanning North and South America; Ro Viper (lead vocals) and Nile Goldschmidt (bass) are from Chile, Lahi Cassiano (guitar) is from Brazil and both Von Boldt (guitar) and Jason Hope (drummer) are from the US. Their combination of talents, personalities and musical interests create a unique but familiar rock sound. Velvet Chains not only looked great on stage, but had massive energy. Lincoln was the first stop on their mini–December Midwest tour. If you get a chance to catch a show, do it. They’re so fun to watch, it’ll be worth it. Check ’em out and give them a follow on the socials.
Pistols at Dawn based out of Atlanta, Georgia is a rock band that’s been around the block, touring with bands like Alter Bridge, Mammoth WVH, Fozzy and most recently Des Rocs. They started off with a searing solo from guitarist Will James before the rest of the band joined him on stage. That set the tone for the rest of the night. James, along with original member Adam Jaffe (drums) and newest members Gabriel Cuevas (bass) and Jon Sookdew (lead vocals) gave us a high-powered performance filled with new songs and a fantastic cover of Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade” that got the small but mighty crowd mossing in the pit. The Rye Room could barely contain their stage show, with Pistols at Dawn working every inch of the stage. We were lucky to snag this band as a part of Kampout for Kids, I wish we would have had a larger crowd for them. Pistols at Dawn is another must see band. If you notice them headlining a tour or even supporting one, take in a show. They sound great and put on a hell of an entertaining show.
