May 6th 2022, The Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan was swamped as rock fans showed up to support Grosse Pointe, Michigan native, John 5 as he and the Creatures made a stop on their Sinner tour.
Opening the night’s festivities were The Haxans, who consist of vocalist Ash Costello of New Years Day and guitarist Matt Montgomery (also known as Piggy D) of Rob Zombie. Ash and Matt pair up to let their freak flag fly as not only do they have wonderful matching outfits but bring some dirt and grime into their music which centers on the macabre.
The Haxans have a new album to be released later this year and offered a taste with a new tune “All The Roses” and slicing through some older songs like “Black Cat Bone”, “Little Black Goat” and “Dirty Magic”. There are plenty of dates left on this tour, so don’t sleep on this band, get there early to enjoy the fun chemistry Matt and Ash share.
Long time Rob Zombie guitarist, John 5, once again graced his presence at The Machine Shop as he brought the Creatures, Ian Ross on bass guitar and Alejandro Mercado on drums along to tear it up on so many musical levels. John 5 is a guitar virtuoso whose playing style knows no limits. Obviously, you’re going to get a big dose of rock and heavy metal licks, but sprinkle in some country banjo picking and mandolin strumming, you’ve got yourself a world tour of music styles wrapped into one show.
With a set list that included the songs “Season Of The Witch”, “Zoinks”, “Land Of Misfit Toys”, “Constant Sorrow” and “Creepshow”. The fans had no shortage of fun times as Ian Ross kept the groove pumping on bass and Alejandro drove the beats on drum. There were even some special appearances from a John 5 looking robot and Leatherface, who was not donning a chainsaw but a bucket of candy that he tossed out to the crowd.
Metal, monsters and candy. What more could a rock and roll and horror fan want? This sold-out crowd got all the tricks and treats.
