Highly Suspect brought their Midnight Demon Club tour to The Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan on October 15th, 2022 and brought Dead Poet Society along for the party.
Kicking things off was Dead Poet Society, led by energetic lead vocalist and guitarist, Jack Underkofler, Will Goodroad on drums, Jack Collins on guitar and Dylan Brenner who is a spark plug on bass guitar. Fresh off the release of their deluxe album ‘-!-’, which was released October 14th 2022, Dead Poet Society is looking to keep the momentum going with their growing fan base with songs like “I Never Loved Myself Like I Loved You”, “Salt” and “Coda”. Dead Poet Society got the crowd on par for the rest of the night.
Touring in support of their latest album, Midnight Demon Club, released September 9th, 2022, Highly Suspect is roaring full steam ahead with new songs and renewed energy with additional members added to the band. The original three of Johnny Stevens on vocals and guitar, Rich Meyer on bass guitar and Ryan Meyer on drums remains constant. The newish guys (added in 2019) are Matt Kofos on guitar, who isn’t really new, as he’s been with the band behind the scenes for years and can whale on the drums, as I witnessed at a Highly Suspect show years ago. Mark Schwartz is the other member, who plays keyboard and guitar.
Highly Suspect is always evolving, and their latest album is evident of that. The first four songs of their set happen to be the first four songs of the new album. With fans already singing along to new tunes like, “Natural Born Killer” and “Midnight Demon Club”, not to mention chart topping hits “My Name Is Human”, “Lydia” and fan favorites “Bath Salts”, “Seratonia” and “F^ck Me Up” amongst others. Highly Suspect has built a catalogue of songs to make for an exciting show.
Not to be outdone by Stevens, Rich Meyer delivers his haunting vocals on the song “Arizona”, which has been a tradition of Highly Suspect shows. The energy was at a fever pitch towards the end when Dead Poet Society’s lead singer Jack Underkofler dove into the audience and crowd-surfed as Highly Suspect rocked out.
It was so nice to see Highly Suspect perform live again and see them continue to thrive. The Midnight Demon Club tour runs till November 5th.
