Tonight, the 2nd of October, Houston was in for a treat! Athenar and his crew, better known as MIDNIGHT, were bringing Cleveland’s sleaze to Brash Brewing. Athenar is the guitarist, bassist, drummer, vocalist and songwriter behind the Cleveland Heavy Metal band. His sound draws on traditional Heavy Metal, Speed Metal, and Thrash. When Midnight plays live shows, Athenar plays bass while accompanied by Commander Vanik on guitar and SS on drums. A three-piece powerhouse of a band live. Just last month, Midnight performed their first show since the shut-down at Psycho Fest Las Vegas. Tonight the three-piece would be playing a large outdoor warehouse which had its side doors open. That means the crowd got to experience the 94% humidity first hand. It had been raining all day, but finally stopped by the time the show would start.
Doors opened around 4pm, but MIDNIGHT took the stage closer to 8:00pm. The place was packed by the time MIDNIGHT took the stage. Athenar walked out with a machete and raised it toward the crowd. They got things started with “Vomit Queen” and the place went absolutely nuts. Tons of sweat, headbanging, moshing, and stage diving. After that, they went right into “Endless Slut” and “Black Rock N’ Roll.” The place went wild and it was so hot that the sweat would drip into your eyes and immediately sting, but this was all well worth it! This was underground metal at its best. The band went on to play their sleazy classics like “Satanic Royalty,” “Penetratal Ectasy,” “Lust Filth and Sleaze,” and “You Can’t Stop Steele.”
Houston would never be the same again! An absolute brutal performance. They ended their set with the classic Midnight anthem, “Unholy and Rotten.” Don’t pass up the chance to see these guys if they ever come to your town. Full set-list and photos below.
