104.1 the Blaze brought the stacked line-up of Asking Alexandria, From Ashes To New, Royale Lynn and What Lies Below to the Bourbon Theatre, Lincoln NE for a powerful, energy filled night.
What Lies Below, a metalcore band out of Pennsylvania, started the night off heavy. I thought the set was already heavy until the end when Andrew Watson (lead vocals) asked “you want heavy?”. I thought to myself, “that’s not the heavy stuff?”. I don’t know what the song was, but the breakdown was fire. It shook the room. What Lies Below did what they signed up to do, they engaged the crowd, got the pit moving and warmed up the fans.
Royale Lynn was a stark change of pace, bringing her touch of country to a rock show. They had a bit of technical difficulties but eventually got things up and running. I’ve seen Royale Lynn a few times now and was happy to see guitarist Byan Karijanian still in the lineup. His energy, showmanship and talent on the guitar makes for an entertaining set. Royale Lynn added two new releases to the set, “Greed” and “Battleground”. She closed out with her two most streamed songs, bringing Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) out for “Death Wish” and ending with “6 Ft Deep”.
Jon Terry from the local radio station, 104.1 the Blaze, took the stage with his daughter thanking the crowd for their support and introducing the direct support for the night; the highly anticipated From Ashes to New (FATN). I feel it’s been a hot minute since the band rolled through Nebraska, and the crowd was ready for them. The term that came kept coming to mind was ravenous. The crowd was into the whole set; front to back singing along to every song, jumping and pounding fists in the air. FATN didn’t bring any new music, but the crowd didn’t seem to mind. They were completely emersed in a set filled with nostalgia and old bangers.
Asking Alexandria (AA) finished the night with a high-powered performance. Making their way to the stage, easing us into things with “Eve” and “Alone Again”. AA had a great mix of songs in their set; chart toppers, deep cuts, melodic gems and heavy hitters. What I loved most was how they rearranged some of their popular songs. I loved hearing different mixes of “The Violence” and “Dark Void”.
Five songs into the set, Danny Worsnop (lead vocals) brought Royale Lynn on stage to join him for “Into the Fire”. AA played “The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)” right before they left the stage. The songs breakdown and people screaming “OH MY GOD” shook the walls. That could have been it for the night, but they joined back on stage for two more “Don’t Pray for Me” and “Alone in a Room”. “Alone in a Room” had everyone jumping and singing along, leaving them on a high as they exited the Bourbon Theatre for the night.
