It was hot as balls outside in Omaha, NE on Monday, July 27, but that didn’t stop the loyal Poppy fans from attending her concert at the Admiral Theater.
Post-hardcore band Thousand Below, from San Diego opened up the show. This was the fourth consecutive year this four-piece has played the Admiral. They were energetic and got the pit going. It was nice to see so many here already for the opener. They definitely won a lot of fans over. I’m excited to see where their career goes as I could definitely see them headline the Admiral in the near future. Check out their latest release, Buried in Jade.
Landmvrks from France was the direct support for the night. This five-piece were incredible to see live. Shout out to them for successfully coming to America with no issues with visas. I know it’s hard to travel overseas now, especially musicians. They came to conquer America without hesitation. The lead vocalist, Florent Salfati, had this very melodic angelic voice while singing. He was rapping in French at one point. I loved it when a vocalist can rap, scream, and sing. I call that the Corey Taylor effect. Again, the audience was very warm towards them for their first time in Omaha. I hope they come back and maybe headline someday. Check out their latest album, The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been.
Finally, the crowd was ready for Poppy. This was my second time seeing her live and she continues to deliver incredible performances. She had these two tall platforms, one for her drummer and one for her and her bandmates. I’ve never seen a stage setup like this at the Admiral/Sokol before, so great job for uniqueness. Poppy really is currently metal’s princess, when she sings, she comes off as sweet, but when she screams bloody murder, you just want to go crazy. I was unfamiliar with her playing guitar, so it was cool to see her rock out while playing a six-string. She had an incredible band of musicians backing her up. And the pit continued to tear it up, going extra hard for Poppy. I could see Poppy play arenas in her future. She has such a loyal fanbase that if she continues to collect more and more people, she’s due to play for some massive crowds. Be sure to check out her latest album, Empty Hands.
