“In the calm, deep waters of the mind, the wolf waits.”F.T. McKinstry

On April 11th One Percent Productions and The Bourbon Theater brought us Wolf Alice. The band is touring in support of their 3rd studio release, “Blue Weekend”. The Guardian described this LP as “Massive ambitions, successfully fulfilled. A Wolf Alice show contains a variety of genres throughout the performance. Shoegaze, indie, hard grunge, and even pop. The band can cover all of it.

Before Wolf Alice, the show opened with Charlie Hickey. Put this guy on your watch list. At 21, he is already making tsunami type waves in the industry. Coming in May, his debut album “Nervous at Night” is due to drop. He and his band mesmerized the Lincoln crowd with their fresh and silky style. Despite the high quality of Charlies set, it felt like an odd choice to open for such a loud, in your face band such as Wolf Alice. You can track Charlie’s undoubted future success by following him on Facebook, or on Instagram, and of course his website.

SET LIST:
NO GOOD AT LYING – TEN FEET TALL – DANDELIONS – COUNT THE STAIRS – SEEING THINGS – NOTRE DAME – NERVOUS AT NIGHT

With the lights off, shapes of the band could be seen walking across the stage. Performing old and new songs, Wolf Alice went deep into their catalogue to bring some of the best tunes ever to hit the Bourbon stage. The band continues its ascent towards global stardom. They recently won their first Brit Award for Best British Group and were Grammy nominated for best rock performance for “Moaning Lisa Smile.”

Their lyrics are full of romance, while their music can make you dizzy. The set was heavy, then ethereal. The bass and guitar add dimension and build continuously. Ellie Roswell’s vocals moved effortlessly between the sound and added femininity and delicacy. When called upon, she belted out their heavier punk styling. If this is what the future of Wolf Alice is to be like then, with all apologies and respect to the Bourbon Theater, venues like that will not hold them for much longer. You can follow Wolf Alice on the following social media outlets – Facebook, Instagram and site.

SET LIST:
SMILE – YOU’RE GERM – FORMIDABLE COOL – DELICIOUS THINGS – LIPSTICK ON THE GLASS – BROS – SAFE FROM HEARTBREAK – HOW CAN I MAKE IT OK – PLAY THE GREATEST HITS – VISIONS OF A LIFE – MOANING LISA SMILE – ON HARD FEELINGS – GIANT PEACH

ENCORE:
LAST MAN ON EARTH – DON’T DELETE THE KISSES
