On Friday, May 26, Tesla played at the Admiral Theater in Omaha, Nebraska. These eighties rockers brought along a solid crowd and some stellar support acts. It was the perfect way to kick Memorial Day weekend off!
Singer-songwriter Christopher Romero from Nashville was the opening act for the night. His brand of acoustic rock was very unique, and his voice was amazing. It was just stripped-down rock n’ roll. I loved that he had someone up there (forgot his name) playing some leads on acoustic guitar. The stand-out moment of his set was his unique cover of Dio’s “Rainbow in the Dark”, a tribute to the late Ronnie James Dio. He recently put out an EP titled, The Nashville Sessions.
The direct support of the night came from Fastest Land Animal. I really dug this band. The energy they brought with them was fast and loose. I kinda wished the audience were vibing with them, but to each their own. I found it funny that the lead singer John Cusimano threw out tambourines and shakers into the audience. It was like they were welcoming everyone to the band. They ended their set with an amazing cover of The Police’s “Next to You”, my favorite Police song. I look forward to their next return to Omaha. Check out their latest album, East Coast, West Coast, In Between.
And finally, it was Sacramento’s own Tesla turn to hit the stage. Celebrating thirty-seven years of being a band, Tesla rocked down the house. So many Tesla diehards came to see their favorite band. Lead singer Jeff Keith still has that signature voice down. The dual guitarists of Frank Hannon and Dave Rude were quite the technical pair. They played all the hits and then some. Tesla brought along some incredible production, including a video board and some excellent lighting, bringing that arena rock show vibe to the 1,500-cap venue. They ended their concert with an encore, with a performance of their hit cover of Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs”. It was an amazing night for rock n’ roll music. They just recently put out a live album called, Full Throttle Live.
