104.1 the Blaze, radio station brought back Pop Evil on their new What Remains tour playing at the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln, Nebraska April 13th, 2025. Previous tour mates Oni and Devour the Day accompanied them, while adding up and comers Return to Dust to the lineup.
Oni hailing from Canada opened the show with its metalcore set. The stage was dark and back-lit, so it was difficult to see everything going on. The crowd didn’t seem to mind. They were pumping their fists throughout the set.
Return to Dust took the stage next. I’ve caught their show several times and still look forward to their set. Surprisingly, the sound was off in the beginning, but it gradually improved. Return to Dust has a unique grungy sound; old grunge soul but with their own signature style. There is something about it that really sticks. Between their unique sound and stage presence, it’s a must-see show. They are only going to continue to grow and get bigger.
Devour the Day was third on the docket. I can’t say enough good things about these guys. The sound was impeccable, and their energy was off the charts. Joey “Chicago” Walser (bass) is a blast to watch, and I love seeing Blake Allison (lead vocals) in front of the stage vs behind the drum kit, whirling around and interacting with the crowd. It’s great to hear new music and see them touring again.
Finally, Pop Evil capped the night, perfection as usual. Pop Evil has been doing their thing for so long, they have it figured out. Just replace songs from the new album and the set is updated. Their songs old and new are lyrically powerful, and the music keeps fists pumping and toes tapping. You can’t go wrong with a Pop Evil show. They do not disappoint. Ever.
I would be remised not to comment on Joey “Chicago” Walser and Blake Allison’s (drums) double duty. The energy they exude in one set is unmatched, but back-to-back sets is remarkable.
Thank you again to 104.1 the Blaze for continuing to bring outstanding bands to Lincoln, and a shout-out to the Bourbon Theatre staff for making sure everything runs smooth and safe.
