Lincoln, Nebraska was treated to a post Labor Day show. Wolfgang Van Halen and his band Mammoth WVH stopped in and rocked the Bourbon Theatre September 5, 2023.
Local Lincolnites, FREAKABOUT opened the show to a full house. It’d been a while since I’d seen a local opener get so much love, but the crowd showed up early and was ready to rock. FREAKABOUT’s excitement to open for Mammoth WVH (MWVH) was conspicuous. They were all smiles and effortlessly interacting with the crowd. They seemed to be right at home. Oh, and they sounded awesome.
Despite only having two albums under their belt, MWVH was able to put together a strong 16 song set list with no covers. I was familiar with a few songs that get regular airplay, otherwise the songs were new to me. I loved all of it. I felt the old school guitar riffs and screaming solos influenced by his father, but Wolfgang puts his own heavy twist on things. My husband said he gets Myles Kennedy/Alterbridge/Rock Star Movie vibes. I feel that too. The set was fantastic, start to finish.
Mammoth WVH is getting set to headline a tour with Nita Strauss starting November 4th. If you get a chance to catch it, do it. It’ll be a great pairing.
