Tonight brought Go Venue to Cadott, Wisconsin. Flew into Minneapolis for this one, then took a 2-hour drive to a very remote place in Wisconsin which was hosting one of this year’s biggest festival shows, Rock Fest 2021! Korn was closing out the night of the 3-day festival, and we were there to cover it!

This was one of Korn‘s first performances since the pandemic, so we were excited to be on hand. Personally, I had not seen Korn live since 1995 when they toured with Danzig. This was one of the band’s first major tours, and of course very early on in their career. Back then they had more to prove since they were somewhat new to the scene. They’ve certainly come along way from that time and are now known for pioneering the nu metal genre and bringing it into the mainstream.

This evening the band was to hit the stage with 3 of their original members, Jonathan Davis (singer), James “Munky” Shaffer (guitar), and Brian Welch (guitar). Drummer Ray Luzier has been with Korn since 2008 and is definitely considered a longtime official member.  Just recently, the band announced that Suicidal Tendencies bassist Ra Diaz would be filling in the wake of Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu‘s absence this summer. Fieldy made the announcement that he would be stepping down from the band’s tour plans to deal with “personal issues” and “bad habits.”  The band supports their bandmate and will give him the time he needs to recuperate. We all wish him well.

It was finally time for Korn to take the main stage at Rock Fest 2021. The lights went down as the intro started promptly at 11pm. They roared into their set with “Insane” off their 2016 album The Serenity of Suffering. From there they went right into “Falling Away From Me” and “Here to Stay.” The crowd was feeding off the energy from the live performance as they were singing and chanting along to all their songs. It had been far too long of a wait for their fans and metal diehards in general. Fill-in bass player, Ra Diaz, didn’t miss a beat as the band played songs from their entire catalog. Korn was back in full force!

The night concluded with encores “Good God” and of course the intense “Blind” from their debut release. Great to see Korn again after so many years, and amazing to see them bring down the house at Rock Fest 2021. Be sure to catch them this summer on tour with Staind. All summer dates are available at www.KornOfficial.com.
