Monday, August 26th was the night the 80s came to town. Omaha’s CHI Health Center was packed with fans anxious to relive the music of better days. The arena was alive with memories and talk of the classic rock of my youth, the anticipation was deafening!

The evening started with John Waite taking the stage, performing the Babys‘ hit “Midnight Rendezvous”. I was a fan of the Babys back in the 80s, so for John Waite to start the set with the Babys classic showed he was more than willing to appease the fans. He followed with other Babys hits such as “Head First” and “Back on my Feet Again”, and of course his solo hits “Change” and “Missing You”. The band was high energy for the full set and played to the crowd and to the camera. It was a great start to an evening of fantastic music.

The infamous Styx took the stage next. Tommy Shaw and James Young, two of the founding members, graced the stage for a night of tunes that made history. They opened with “Grand Illusion”, followed by “Too Much Time on my Hands” and then slowing things down with “Lady”.  The vocals and musicianship were perfect, they sounded amazing! They continued with tunes like “Miss America”, “Blue Collar Man”, “Best of Times” and “Come Sail Away”. Such an iconic band could not end without the classic Renegade, and they killed it!

I’m ashamed to say, before that night, I had not seen Foreigner. I’ve heard time and again how great they were live, but never had the opportunity to see them live. I was blown away at how great they were live. The music was perfect, their stage presence exuded rock star, and the fans were engrossed. There was non-stop dancing in every row, and the words to each song could be heard booming from the furthest points of the arena. Foreigner opened their show with “Double Vision”, “Head Games” and “Cold as Ice”.  They next slowed things down a bit with “Waiting for a Girl Like You”, but then were right back at it with “Dirty White Boy”, “Urgent”, and “Jukebox Hero”.  How do you follow a set list like that, by closing the night with “Hot Blooded”. What an amazing evening of reliving youth and enjoying the classic songs of our youth. This is a tour that should not be missed.
