Tonight, Thursday, September 8, 2022, Alice In Chains brought their ‘America Tour 2022’ to FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, California. This tour marks the first time the band has performed live since September 2019. This time around they had Thunderpussy, BUSH, and Breaking Benjamin as support on the tour. Their touring extends through the first week in October, ending in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
The night got started with Thunderpussy. These four females had a rocking set. As stated by the band, “We play music, ride motorcycles, date girls, and lift heavy shit for a living.” Tonight they were able to warm up the crowd with songs like “Fever,” “Firebreather,” “Velvet Noose,” and “Speed Queen.” They also covered Heart’s classic, “Barracuda.” Great show and look forward to hearing more from these rock goddesses!
The night continued with amazing sets from both BUSH and Breaking Benjamin. BUSH took the stage with frontman, Gavin Rossdale, leading the way as they started their set with “The Kingdom,” which comes from the band’s eighth studio album. They played a healthy amount of songs from the latest 2020 release, but also played classics like “Machinehead,” “Everything Zen,” “Glycerine,” and “Comedown.” During the last song, Gavin left the stage and ran and joined the crowd in the stands as he sang through “Flowers On A Grave.” What a way to interact with the fans!
Breaking Benjamin took the stage next, starting their set with “Blow Me Away” then went right into “Sooner or Later.” They also played songs like “Firefly,” “So Cold,” “Failure,” “Red Cold River,” and “I Will Not Bow.” They also gave tribute to Queen by playing their cover of “Who Wants to Live Forever.” They ended their set with their hit, “The Diary of Jane.” A perfect set leading up to the night’s headliner, Alice in Chains.
Alice In Chains took the stage around 9:30pm. The Irvine crowd roared, welcoming the band as they started their set with “Again” from their 1995 self-titled album. It had been far too long since they had been back to Southern California. Tonight definitely felt special, as it was an honor to have them back. They played fan favorites like “Grind,” “Them Bones,” “Dam That River,” “Man In The Box,” “Nutshell” and “Would?” This brought back tons of memories from those Seattle grunge days.
The night concluded with the band playing the classic “Rooster.” The lineup consisting of William DuVall, Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, and Mike Inez works magically well. They would definitely make, the late Layne Staley, proud. We want to thank them for having us there this evening and look forward to their return.
