Steelhouse was the place to be Sunday, July 21 as Chevelle made their return to Omaha. People from all over packed the venue to have a fun Sunday night before they head back to work the next morning.

Return to Dust from Los Angeles opened up the gig. My main takeaway: grunge is back? This band rocked so hard. The riffs were thick and the rhythm was beating. I loved hearing the vocals switch up between the bassist and rhythm guitarist. They even had those vocal harmonies you usually hear from Alice in Chains. These guys have so much potential to be huge. I’m excited to see what they do next. Next time you can check these guys, again, if you’re in eastern Nebraska, will be opening up for Sevendust and 10 Years at the Bourbon Theatre in Lincoln in October. Be sure also to check out their self-titled debut album.

Tigercub returned to the Omaha metro area for a second time this year, where I got to cover their set opening for Porno for Pyros. Once again, it was another solid set. They gain a whole bunch of new fans at this show. Unfortunately, bassist Jimi Wheelwright couldn’t make it for this tour, but glad they found a temporary replacement. But, otherwise, it was another solid set from the Tigercub guys. Go check out their album, The Perfume of Decay.

Finally, it was Chevelle’s turn to unleash on the Omaha crowd. My third time seeing these guys and they always continue to bring it live. With them being from the Chicagoland area, they have a kinship with these midwest crowds. The crowd in the pit was going wild for every heavy song they played, I had never seen it like it before. Those Loeffler boys (Pete, guitarist/vocalist, and Sam, drummer) always have a strong rhythmic presence to their live show. Shout out to their new touring bassist Kemble Walters for holding it down rhythmically, as well as vocally. I always love the production they bring to every tour and this time around they brought some really cool video boards as a backdrop for their production. It was another solid set from Chevelle. I hope it doesn’t take another seven years to come back here because I believe Omaha has the most loyal Chevelle fans out there. They are putting the finishing touches to their tenth album which will hopefully come out next year, so keep an eye out for that.
